Over the past two years, the Covid-19 pandemic has affected teaching and learning activities at universities to varying degrees. Nevertheless, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering has continually made great efforts to successfully accomplish its assigned missions, including a strong focus on CDIO-oriented training, which contributes to improving the quality of undergraduate education and strengthening connections between the university and industry.
With the aim of enhancing students’ knowledge and improving the quality of training for bachelor and engineering programs in Mechatronics Engineering, on June 5, 2022, at the G3 Hall of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Electrical Engineering organized the event entitled “Business–Student Meetup with Mechatronics Engineering (MEC) Students.”
In order to provide students with a comprehensive view of career opportunities in the Mechatronics Engineering field in today’s society, the Department of Electrical Engineering invited a number of companies operating in various sectors such as: general construction contracting; design, installation, and supervision of MEP systems; technical trading; providing automation solutions for factories; and renewable energy projects in Vietnam, etc.
Participating companies included representatives from Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company No. 5, Toyota Tsusho Vietnam Co., Ltd., Hai Anh Technical Trading Joint Stock Company, Tan Thanh An Investment, Trading and Technology Joint Stock Company, and Dien Sang Electrical Construction and Trading Services Co., Ltd.
During the discussion session between company representatives and MEC students, students actively raised many questions regarding the prospects of the mechatronics industry in Vietnam, requirements for internships, job positions after graduation, salary and benefits offered by companies, essential skills for recruitment, opportunities to work in foreign joint-venture enterprises, and the competitiveness of female candidates, among others.
In response to students’ enthusiastic participation, company representatives were highly supportive and helped MEC students gain deeper insight and greater confidence in their career choices. Through direct and passionate exchanges, they also provided students with essential skills and practical advice to prepare for entering the workforce after graduation.
On behalf of the organizers, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luu Duc Thach – Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and Dr. Nguyen Duc Bac – Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, expressed sincere appreciation to the participating companies, faculty members, and students for taking the time to attend the event. Through this meetup, students also realized that in addition to professional knowledge gained at university, it is important to develop soft skills, hands-on experience, and foreign language proficiency in order to improve their opportunities for growth in an internationally integrated environment.
With the CDIO-oriented teaching and learning approach, organizing internships and company visits for students by the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has contributed to strengthening cooperation between enterprises and students. This provides students with valuable practical experience and increases their chances of finding suitable jobs after graduation.
The meetup attracted great interest from many lecturers and MEC students.
Company leaders shared insights about the industry and career paths.
MEC students actively asked questions to company representatives.
